September TBR!

Hey there folks! I have a lot on my plate this month. There are a lot of "scheduled reading", but I'm going to try to read books I want to read as well, so that I don't feel like I'm in school. Have you guys read any of these books? If so, how did you like them?

The first book is obviously The Martian by Andy Weir. I'm only about halfway through. It's about Watney, an astronaut stranded on mars for years. Years. He finds ways to survive because he is an engineer and a botanist. But the fun part; he's a sarcastic asshole. His personality gives this book it's distinct flavor. Without Watney, this would be another scifi about living on mars all by yourself. This is probably one of my favorites for the year, just for Watney. I'm in love with this book and can't put it down. I will definitely be doing a review on this one soon.

Next I'm reading The Wraith of Carter's Mill by c Evenfall. This is a supernatural book, about a family curse that's been passed down generations. I'm not exactly sure of this is the entire series, or the last of the series, but it's about Julia, who torments her possesed sister Susie. Then after Julia dies, her daughter Libby and granddaughter Shyanne discover their powers to see the spirits around them, and be transported into visions of the past. It all revolves around this little black shadow man which is the curse. It's a very interesting read, not bad at all. I'll be doing a blog our for this book on the 6th. Yes, Sunday!

Another blog tour coming up is for Splintered Souls by Erica Lucke Dean. This is a story about a girl who gives up her dreams of going to a huge university, so she and her mother and little brother can move to a family home in Main. Her father has just died of a heart attack, and knows that her mother can't cope with her leaving too. So she stays with them in her grandmother's house, where something is amiss. It is another generational book, but I think this one is more of a butterfly affect thing instead of a curse. I've not gotten far into it, but I will be reading it.

This is a book about a handicapped boy with healing powers. He's called a spinner, and his grandmother is using him to heal the children she beats. There are people out there who want him for his powers, and he has to find a way to live safely. I don't know much more about this book, there are good reviews on it though.

I have recently discovered that my favorite type of books are in a journal or letter format. So I've decided to take this book off my bookshelf and read it. It's a memoir I think? About a colored woman in an interesting predicament and how her race affects things in her life. I'm excited to read this one as soon as I finish The Martian. It has a lot of good reviews so it seems promising!

August wrap up!

Hi guys! I'm here with a wrap up of what I've read in the month of August. I only finished two books, Love Letters to the Dead. I've already told you guys about that one. Not gonna write about it for the third time.

I also read A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness on my Iphone. I finished it in about three days. It's the first Patrick Ness book I've ever read, and it was really good. I feel like this book is geared more towards middle grade, but even for that, it was a good read. Now I want to read his YA and see how good that it.

The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.

But it isn't the monster Conor's been expecting. He's been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he's had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming...

This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.

It wants the truth.

Those are the only two books I have read this month, but I am currently reading The Martian by Andy Weir. I'm only like, three pages in, but I love his sense of humor so far. 

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him & forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded & completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—& even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment or plain-old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—& a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

I am also reading this one on my phone, but since I've got three other projects going on at the moment, it might take a while to finish this one. 

Bout of Books wrap up!

I know I had a goal of reading three books, and I really only read one book during this read-a-thon. BUT! It was an important book and a real experience that I didn't expect.

This book. You guys. 

So this book was a great one. Not the best, mind you. I did get pretty annoyed by how immature the main character was throughout 75% of the story. But I liked this book because of the concept, and the fact that I went through depression in my childhood. So reading this book felt like watching my past self go through all of it again. It was a difficult read at some parts.
Love Letters To The Dead is about Laurel, a girl who goes through grief after losing her sister, May. In class she is assigned to write a letter to someone who is dead. So she does, and keeps doing so throughout the entire school year. She writes to people who inspire her, or mean something to her life.
I bought the ebook version, and finished it in about three days. I cried at the epilogue. I don't really know what else to say.

That's all I read during the Bout of Books, really. I read a little bit of Outlander, and I'm currently reading A Monster Calls. Both fantastic books. The second one is also about death, but before it happens, and the grief and anger that comes with expecting the death of a loved one. It's also a great read.
